A flow based solid phase peptide synthesis for the incorporation of an amino acid residue every 50 seconds under automatic control is described. This is accomplished by passing a stream of reagent through an heat exchanger, into a low volume, low pressure reaction vessel, and through a UV detector. To demonstrate the broad applicability and reliability of this method, it was employed to synthesize proteins and hundreds of peptides and numerous proteins.
